Plastic/Cosmetic Surgery -- Is There A Difference?

Many people believe that the term plastic surgery is synonymous with cosmetic surgery. However, the term plastic surgery applies to a general surgeon who is fellowship-trained and experienced in:

• Burn surgery
• Microsurgical reconstructive surgery
• Hand surgery
• Reconstructive surgery for the head, face and breast

Cosmetic Surgery refers to surgery that is purely elective with the goal of aesthetic enhancement.  Dr. Nease has fellowship training and is Board Certified in Cosmetic Surgery or elective surgery to improve appearance. This is his area of expertise and the sole focus of Magnolia Cosmetic Surgery Center. Other plastic surgeons may or may not have the experience, education or training in performing elective, cosmetic surgical procedures.  Most plastic surgeons typically specialize in procedures that are not solely for aesthetic purposes for which they are most qualified to perform. Should you request a procedure that falls within the greater expertise of another specialist, we will gladly refer you for their expert care.
